About
Who is FauxMenco?
FauxMenco are Catherine Capozzi and Rafi Sofer, translating their loud and adventurous experimental electric guitar worlds to nylon string guitars. Drawing from rock, classical, flamenco, surf, gypsy, and the ambience of time & space, FauxMenco loves to explore - striving to create exciting guitar dreamscapes that are propulsive and timeless.
Selected by Brian May to win his famed “Red Special” electric guitar, Catherine is a genre bending and award winning film composer and producer.
Israeli-born Rafi Sofer is a sound and visual artist - head engineer at Boston's legendary Q Division Studios by day, street and macro photographer by night.
Catherine and Rafi met while playing in loud prog rock instrumental bands. Catherine's Axemunkee is an incredibly energetic 4 piece band that features Yuri Zbitnoff's hard hitting acoustic drumming interlocking with Tamora Gooding's electronic drumming - a very unusual voice in the world of guitar rock. Rafi Sofer's Invisible Rays were loud and creative - playing instrumental rock by way of punk, with a wild dose of video sampling and analog liquid slide projections - creating an immersive and otherworldly experience for viewers.
As FauxMenco we're exploring the worlds of instrumental guitar opened up by Django Reinhardt, Paco de Lucia, Gary Lucas, John Fahey and so many more. Instrumental and melodic guitar compositions with hints of virtuosic musicianship and danceable rhythms.
